One Early, One Late Puts U9's On Top
St.Columban U9 boys traveled to Goderich to play their #3 team Tuesday night. During the drive up it looked like we may have to postpone the game. Turns out things were good to go in Goderich. Both teams had short benches this week. It would be interesting to see who would out last the other.
St.Columban scored early on a break away by Jackson D. The local crowd called for an offside but the ref made the correct call seeing that the player carried the ball directly to the net and scored. A short time later a questionable handball was called against St.Columban and a penalty shot awarded. Luckily the shot hit the crossbar and was cleared by our defense.
It was actually a close game. It was a back and forth contest. Jacob P and Preston H both played well in net making key stops at the right time. With about 10 min left James M crossed a ball that made it through everyone and on to the foot of Cohen M. He settled the ball down and crushed it into the mesh. 2-0 final. Jackson D moved to a defensive role after his goal and played a great shut down game for us. With the short bench the boys really toughed it out and the runners really came through for us tonight.
