St Columban vs Lucknow - A Div Championship
On 30 July 2018 in Wingham on Galbraith field, St Columban won a tight game 1-0.  It was the 5th time the teams met this year and another humid night was felt by both sides.  Despite many opportunities it took until 15 mins left of the 2nd half for Allysa Greidanus to score the loan goal of the game.  Kennedy Huether played a strong goal for the shutout.  Kiara Driscoll and Laura McCarthy iron manned the game at center back.  Kennedy McGregor and Alexis Hoste won battles away from other obligations to make it back to play in the championship.  Bernadette Terpstra and Madison Burdge played strong games while recovering from injuries.

All girls did what they had to do for the team to win.  Kaitlyn Roth learning how to play the ever so valuable position of defense and jumping to mid-field when required.  Samantha McCarthy, Taylor Rolleman, Abby Rodgers jumping in and out of the ever so valuable half-back position.  Always running both sides of the field, which may result in less minutes played but when done correctly keeps the ball in the offensive zone there to let the strikers free.  Sarah Klaver always a thorn in the goalie by playing center striker, knowing when to chip behind the defense to let the outside strikers sprint behind the defense. Each had their individual strengths and used them as a cohesive unit to win the final game of the season.  The girls played an outside game with the ball going in and out of the center.  Once down the field, a crossover in to the 18 or 9 yrd box where they let their keep away skills and desire to frustrate opponents, keeping them constantly in fear.  A couple u13's came up to play when it was thought only 11 players could make it, and fit in seamlessly.  The girls wore their EK arm bands with pride, while a 30 sec pause was taken before handing out the individual trophies.  Ebony Kay you may not have been physically with us, but please know, "you'll never walk alone."  This group of girls always represented St Columban SC with great pride.  To the girls who could not be there, they were an integral part of the team and we would not have won without you.
