Bronze Medal Finish for U18 Girls
St Columban U18 girls hosted South Huron on Saturday August 12, 2017 and after a hard fought battle came home with a bronze medal. Midway through the first frame, after Nicki Van Bakel sent the ball deep, Kiara Driscoll made a nice pass to Lorren Poland who opened the scoring for the home squad. Shortly thereafter, Emma Flanagan found the back of the net after a nice cross from Sam Reidy.
The second half opened at 2 nil for St Columban, but the visiting squad, like the rain, just wouldn’t quit and were rewarded with a goal early in the second half. Lots of exciting back and forth action ensued, but St Columban would prevail. Lorren Poland added her second marker on a nice feed from Kiara Driscoll this time, after Sam Reidy put the ball deep. Kiara Driscoll would round out the score at 4-1 with a superb individual effort, out hustling her opponent from well outside the 18 yard line. Sarah and Nicki Van Bakel shared the goal tending and both delivered a stellar performance. The St Columban squad came to play and delivered a well-deserved, gritty win. Well done girls, great season!
